Free trees part of Earth Day celebration at Black Hills Energy

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Black Hills Energy (BHE) is celebrating Earth Day this Friday (April 22) by offering more than 800 free trees to their customers.

BHE has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation’s “Energy-Saving Trees” program since 2014, and nearly 9,000 trees have been planted in that time.

Strategically placed trees can help offset energy costs – sometimes by up to 20% – in addition to providing cleaner air.

Black Hills Energy customers can start reserving their trees on Friday, April 22 on a first come, first served basis.

The one- to three-foot-tall dormant trees will be delivered in May and June, just in time for spring planting.

BHE is also partnering with the Historic McGillicuddy House in Rapid City, and will be planting three trees at their South Street location.

As a reminder, customers are encourage to call 8-1-1 to have underground utility lines marked at least two days before they plan to plant any tree. You can also schedule an appointment here.
