PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota House and Senate have failed to reach an agreement on HB1100, Medical Marijuana.
The bill was lost after a conference committee deadlocked Thursday afternoon and could not reach an agreement.
House members convened around 6:15 pm CT Wednesday and quickly voted 67 to 3 to not pursue further negotiations, ending HB1100.
The failure of HB1100 means the voter-passed medical marijuana law will go into effect on July 1.
Governor Kristi Noem had argued that her administration needed more time to implement the program, but senators from within her own party defied her initiative.
They reasoned they owed it to voters to end marijuana prohibitions in some form.
