Jackley issues 2022 Crime in South Dakota Report

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley last week released the 2022 Crime In South Dakota Report.  Jackley used one word to describe the numbers from 2021 to 2022 – steady.

The total number of criminal offenses during 2022 was 68,768, which was slightly down from 69,430 in 2021.  The number of arrests decreased as well.  Serious crimes such as homicides, sex offenses and aggravated assaults totaled 48,134 in 2022 compared with 46,485 in 2021.  Total drug offenses, including drug offenses involving methamphetamine, were down, while Other Narcotics offenses were up.  He explains how these numbers will be used.

Jackley says South Dakota remains a relatively safe state.
