RAPID CITY, S.D. – The man arrested over the weekend in connection with the murder of 82-year-old Reta McGovern is now facing additional charges.
On Monday, 45-year-old James Jumping Eagle was charged in federal court with failing to register as a sex offender. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says he knowingly did not register this month, even though he was required to do so. Jumping Eagle pleaded not guilty. This is a separate charge and is unrelated to the murder case.
The judge ordered Jumping Eagle be held in the Pennington County jail, saying he is a flight risk.
Jumping Eagle was arrested over the weekend on the Pine Ridge Reservation in connection with the murder of McGovern, who was found dead in her home on February 10.
