STURGIS, S.D. – South Dakota recorded another daily new high for COVID-19 cases Friday as 1,132 positive tests were reported along with an additional 53 that are probable.
The new daily high sends the active caseload in the state to 9,862 – up 589 from Thursday, and also a new high.
Hospitalizations were down by 6 Friday to 349 but deaths continued to mount as 9 new COVID-19 related fatalities were reported. State officials, on their website, indicated the new deaths were five women and four men with five in the 70-79 age range, three in the 80+ age range and one in the 50-59 age range. The new deaths included two out of Pennington and Minnehaha and one each out of Lincoln, Union Gregory, Turner and Jerauld counties. The state’s death toll is now 356.
Across West River, there were 253 total new cases with Pennington County accounting for 74 of them.
Pennington County’s total reaches 3,909 and active cases are up 29 to 931.
Oglala Lakota County continues to see high numbers as another 60 new positive cases were reported Friday. Oglala Lakota has 770 total ad 405 remain active.
Lawrence County added 26 new cases Friday, sending their total to 772 with 227 active.
Butte County added 13 new cases today and Meade County had 7. Butte County’s total rises to 274 with 110 active and Meade County’s total hits 854 with 174 active.
Other new cases across West River today include 12 in Todd, 11 in Lyman, 6 each in Fall River and Gregory, 5 each in Corson and Mellette, 4 each in Custer, Ziebach, Stanley and Jackson, 3 in Harding, 2 each in Perkins, Haakon, Tripp and Mellette and one in Dewey.
