LEAD, S.D. – The Lead Fire Department says no one was hurt after a U.T.V. caught fire on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Leade Fire Department, at approximately 14:45 on September 2nd, the Lead Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a UTV fire approximately 2 miles West of the Richmond Hill Road north of the Coeur Wharf Mine.
Upon arrival, firefighters from the LVFD found a fully engulfed UTV on a 60″ wide two track trail with flames spreading to the surrounding vegetation.
An initial attack using the bumper monitor on Brush 6 was able to extinguish the UTV and a second hand-line was utilized to stop forward progress in the nearby vegetation. Firefighters from the Lead Volunteer Fire Department, South Dakota Wildland Fire, and Black Hills National Forest Fire used a wide variety of hand and power tools to eliminate all hot spots and to fully extinguish any remaining vegetation. The burned area was approximately 1/10 of an acre.
No one was injured at the incident.
Lead units: RON 1, Brush 6, Tender 5, and Engine 3 responded to the incident.
Assisting agencies were South Dakota Wildland Fire and Black Hills National Forest Fire.
