RAPID CITY, S.D. – There’s a reason police tell you not to leave keys in an unlocked car.
Rapid City Police have reported at least ten vehicles have been stolen in the last two weeks as the result of easily preventable circumstances.
Police say three car thefts on October 14 involved vehicles left unlocked with keys inside. During the recent snowstorm on October 9, police say three cars were stolen after the owners had started them to warm up and didn’t lock the doors.
Police also continue to caution against leaving firearms in vehicles. A vehicle reported stolen earlier this month had three handguns and a rifle inside.
