Rapid City fire crews quickly knock down fire in bedroom of home Monday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City fire crews responded to a structure fire in the 800 block of East Meade Street just before noon on Monday.

When fire crews arrived, they noticed light smoke coming from the right side and back side of the home.

Once inside, they noticed fire was confined to one bedroom and were able to put out the fire quickly with a watering can. While some contents of the bedroom were ruined, the crews were able to keep the fire from spreading any further.

Everyone in the home, including multiple animals, were able to escape except one cat. Crews tried to save the cat, but ultimately the cat passed away due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
