RAPID CITY, S.D. —At their Tuesday night meeting, the Rapid City Area School Board approved the purchase of land on the east side of town.
The board voted unanimously to purchase 51.44 acres behind the Shepherd Hill Subdivision for a net purchase cost of $754,413. Shepherd Hill is located to the east of East North Street.
The district is hoping to potentially use the property to build an a future elementary school to help with the predicted residential growth in Rapid Valley.
There is no timeline for when development may actually occur and will depend on future district funding and continued population growth. .
The district already owns a couple of plots of land in Rapid Valley for potential development in the future. Those plots were also purchased based on the population trends at that time.
