Schroeder Road Fire at 1,900 acres Monday night

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Fire officials say aerial mapping of the Schroeder Road fire has estimated its size at 1,900 acres.

As of Monday night, there is no containment on the fire and hundreds of firefighters are working the lines.

In their Monday evening update, authorities say two outbuildings and one home had been lost.

Fire officials have reopened Schroeder Road to residents, but all other evacuation areas, including Westberry Trails, remain closed through the night. Other areas that remain evacuated Monday night include Cavern Road, Nameless Cave Road, Cleghorn Canyon Road, Pinedale Heights area west of Berry Pine Heights Drive, Dark Canyon and Magic Canyon Road.

Between 400 and 500 homes total have been evacuated.

Black Hills Energy on Monday night confirms that power has been restored to all customers who experienced an outage due to wildfires and high winds on Monday.

Help for affected residents is coming in all types of ways.

The American Red Cross was aiding evacuees and various organizations were stepping up to help anyone with livestock or pets.

Save Them All Rescue announced that anybody being evacuated and needing a place for their animals for the night can come to Rock Valley Gardens, 7575 Haines Street. They are set up and want to help.

The owner of Paws on Main in Sturgis also provided the following post on their Facebook page:

“Rapid City friends, if you have a camper and need to evacuate and have dogs/horses I have property with hookups and we can get some panels for horses. Feel free to share with others. Be safe!” Their number is 490-1632.

Fire crews say they will continue to provide structure protection and monitor the fire overnight.
