PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials on Monday reported 331 new cases of COVID-19 with 30 of those listed as probable. The new numbers are from Friday with the weekend numbers to be released in tomorrow’s update.
Active cases increased by 257, reaching 2,589. Hospitalizations were up by two over Thursday to 127.
No new deaths were reported, keeping the state’s death toll at 2.057.
Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 83 new cases, of which, 5 were considered probable.
Meade County had the second most cases with 58, 3 of which were probable. In fact, the Department of Health says Meade County has a weekly test-positivity rate of 36.1%. That means more than one out of every three COVID-19 tests are coming back positive. That’s the highest amount for any county in South Dakota dealing with more than 10 new COVID-19 cases. The vaccination rate is low in Meade County as well. Health officials say the vaccination rate is only 26-percent.
Elsewhere around the Black Hills, Lawrence County added 31 new cases with one new probable.
Butte County reported 12 new cases, Custer had 4 and 3 new cases were reported in Fall River County.
