RAPID CITY, S.D. – A South Dakota house candidate, who lost his race in last week’s election, made an initial court appearance Tuesday on a rape charge.
Bud Marty May, age 37, was arrested on November 13 on one count of second-degree rape.
May appeared in court Tuesday morning via video conference from the Pennington County Jail.
Judge Bogue set May’s bond at $7,500 cash only and issued a no contact order for the alleged victim.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Nov. 30 for the rape case.
May is also facing separate charges in relation to driving without insurance and having expired license plates.
