South Dakota records new high in active COVID-19 infections; adds thirteen more deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health released three days of numbers today and reported 6,483 new cases of COVID-19 with 1,355 of those listed as probable.

Active cases are at a new high today – 32,761 – and the number of people hospitalized jumped by 44 to 392. Monument Health reports 78 COVID-19 realted hospitalizations with 16 in the I.C.U.

Thirteen new deaths were also reported today, sending the state’s death toll to 2,573. Of the new deaths, three were out of Pennington County and one was out of Butte County.

Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County saw 1,191 total new cases with 178 of those listed as probable.

Meade County had the next highest amount – 224 total new cases with 17 of those considered probable.

Lawrence County reported 143 total news cases with 4 probable and Butte County had 68 new cases with 7 of those considered probable.

Elsewhere, Oglala Lakota County listed 48 new cases, Fall River County had 45, Custer County showed 41 and Harding County added 5 new cases.
