PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials reported another increase in new COVID-19 cases Wednesday as 1,283 were reported.
It was also another deadly report as the state reported 28 new deaths. New deaths West River included 3 out of Pennington and one each out of Lawrence and Gregory counties. The state’s death toll is now 849 with 434 reported in November alone.
Active cases are down today to 15,312 and the number of people hospitalized was down 4 to 570. However, the state’s percentage of I.C.U. hospital beds remains low – statewide at 18.9-percent. Within the Black Hills healthcare system, the percentage of available I.C.U. beds is 11.1-percent.
As for new cases Wednesday, there were 437 West River. Pennington County had the most with 162 new cases reported. Pennington County’s total rose to 8,122 Wednesday and of those, 1,701 remain active.
Lawrence County added 38 new cases, sending their total to 1,907 with 357 active. Meade County reported 33 new cases, sending the cumulative total to 1,650 with 313 remaining active.
Butte County added 14 new cases, sending the total to 689 with 98 active.
Other new cases across West River included 64 in Dewey, 30 in Oglala Lakota, 22 in Tripp, 15 in Todd, 10 in Ziebach, 8 each in Gregory and Perkins, 7 in Custer, 5 in Lyman, 4 in Bennett, 3 each in Jones and Stanley, 2 each in Fall River, Harding, Corson, Jackson and Mellette and one in Haakon.
