SPEARFISH, S.D. – Law enforcement from South Dakota and Wyoming were involved in a high speed pursuit that began in Wyoming Monday afternoon and ended near Spearfish.
South Dakota Highway Patrol spokesman Tony Mangan says the pursuit began in Crook County as a Wyoming deputy sheriff had attempted to perform a traffic stop on a 2006 GMC Canyon.
The driver, identified as 32-year-old Christopher Elman of Spearfish, fled east down I-90 and into South Dakota. Authorities say he drove up the westbound on-ramp on Exit 14 the wrong way, drove over the bridge and then south along 27th Street before heading north to Aspen Drive and back to Colorado Boulevard where he attempted to turn west before striking a curb and rolling the pickup.
Elman was arrested without further incident. He was transported to Monument Health Spearfish Hospital for observation and then taken to the Lawrence County Jail.
Charges are pending and the incident remains under investigation.
