State health officials report 143 new COVID-19 cases and 7 new deaths Friday

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 143 new cases of COVID-19 Friday with 40 of them listed as probable.

Active cases saw a slight decrease to 1,944 and the number of people hospitalized fell by 4 to 96.

There were 7 new deaths Friday, sending the statewide total since the pandemic began to 1,879.

New cases across the Black Hills area included 11 confirmed in Pennington County, where the total rose to 12,871.

Meade County had six new cases with one of them listed as probable. Lawrence County also had a probable new case and a new, confirmed case.

Butte County added 2 new cases and Fall River and Oglala Lakota County each had one new case Friday.
