State health officials report 15 deaths in Monday COVID-19 update

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials reported 15 new COVID-19 related deaths in their Monday report – the deadliest one day total since 14 were reported in the February 11th update.

The new deaths send the state’s death toll to 2,160. Of the new deaths, 8 were located West River. There were 3 in Pennington County, 2 each in Fall River and Todd Counties and one in Lawrence County.

Health officials reported 366 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, with 79 of those listed as probable.

Active cases decreased by 110 from Friday to 7,215 today.

The number of people needing hospitalization due to the virus also dropped today to 201.

Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County added 62 additional new cases today; of which, 20 were listed as probable.

Lawrence County reported 14 new cases and Meade County listed 11.

Elsewhere, Custer County had 11, Oglala Lakota County reported 6 and Butte and Fall River Counties each reported 4 new cases.

As of Monday, 64.35% of the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 58.75% have completed the vaccination series.
