STURGIS, S.D. – South Dakota continues to set new highs for COVID-19 cases as the state reported 579 new positive tests Saturday.
The new cases send the active caseload up 235 to 3,742.
Also setting a new high is the number of hospitalizations as 213 people are hospitalized due to the virus.
Two new deaths were reported today as well. Of the two new deaths reported, both victims were men. One was listed in the 70-79 age range and the other man was 80+. The victims were from Codington and Pennington counties.
New cases around the Black Hills area totaled 102 with Pennington County adding another 51 new cases Saturday.
The active caseload rose 18 today in Pennington to 402 and the cumulative total is now 2,249.
Lawrence County had the third most new cases today with 15, and the county’s total is 395. Of those, 100 remain active.
Meade County added 10 new cases today, sending the cumulative total to 519 with 111 active.
Oglala Lakota had the second highest new case total today, adding 18 for a cumulative total of 270 with 64 active cases.
Other new cases around the Black Hills area include 6 in Butte and one each in Custer and Fall River counties.
The total number of cases across West River today was 143.
A total of 2,187 new persons tested was reported on Saturday.
