Teenage runaway leads authorities on chase in stolen car

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Authorities say a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in a crash at Box Elder Monday.

The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 16-year-old female runaway had stolen a vehicle and led authorities on a chase that ended in a crash at Interstate 90’s Exit 67.

The car ended up on its side against a chain link fence.

Rescue crews had to extricate the girl from the vehicle by cutting the roof of the car off. The girl reportedly received no serious injuries.

As a precaution, the Wall School District and New Underwood School briefly went into “secure status,” until the chase ended.

The highway patrol is handling the investigation.
