Three people rescued from ravine in Badlands Friday night

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Pennington County authorities rescued three people out of a situation in Badlands National Park this past Friday night.

Just after 6:30 PM Friday night, first responders were called to an area approximately two miles North of the Badlands Pinnacles Ranger Station along Highway 240 for a report of three people who had fallen down a very steep and deep ravine.

The three had been stuck in the ravine for about two hours before they were spotted by bystanders.

The bystanders requested help from a Nebraska National Forest employee who called 911.

When Pennington County Search and Rescue arrived on scene they performed a vertical rope rescue to safely and successfully rescue all three patients.

There were no injuries to the stranded individuals.

Also responding to this incident and assisting with the rescue were Wall Fire, Wall Ambulance, Badlands National Park law enforcement & Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
