Two vehicle accident on Highway 16 results in serious injuries

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol is among the agencies investigating a two vehicle crash Saturday that the intersection of Highway 16 and Neck Yoke Road.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, a 32-year-old male was driving a 2011 GMC Sierra pickup with four passengers that included a 27-year-old female, a three-year-old and 11-year old female, and 12-year-old male. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, but the four passengers were wearing seatbelts.

The single driver, a 77-year-old male, was driving a 2005 Chevy Suburban. He was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary crash information indicates the GMC pickup was westbound on Highway 16. The Suburban was eastbound on Highway 16 and attempted to make a left turn when the vehicles collided.

Charges are pending against both drivers.

All information is preliminary at this point. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
