Up and coming athletes shine at annual Jeff Smit Memorial Track and Field Meet

STURGIS, S.D. – Hundreds of athletes converged on Sturgis for the annual Jeff Smit Memorial Track and Field Meet.

The meet is held at Woodle Field, and features middle school students from around a wide area.

For many schools, this is a preview of up and coming athletes headed to high school to participate in track and field.

The Sturgis Scoopers had some first place winners, including seventh grader Danika Dschaak, who won the high jump with a leap of 4-11.00. Dschakk also placed second in the long jump.

Charlee Bierle, a sixth grader, won the triple jump at 25-10.00.

On the boys side, Sully Jost, an eighth grader, won the triple jump with a leap of 39-01.00.

Sturgis also had several second place winners on the day.
