PIERRE, S.D. – The Wednesday COVID-19 update from the South Dakota Department of Health indicates 1,230 new cases of the virus, with 289 of those listed as probable.
The update today includes numbers from Friday afternoon through Tuesday morning.
Active cases from Tuesday increased by 325 to 6,507 statewide. The number of people hospitalized dropped by 3 to 210, but the number of people who have died with COVID-19 increased by the same amount to 2,077. The three new deaths include two men and one woman in the following age ranges: 1 in the 30-39 year old group; 1 in the 50-59 year old group; 1 in the 80+ year old group. New deaths were reported in Charles Mix, Lawrence and Minnehaha Counties.
Across the Black Hills region, Pennington County had a four day total of 380 new cases, of which, 60 were considered as probable.
The second highest number of new cases was found in Meade County, where there were 66 confirmed and 9 probable.
Lawrence County had 73 new cases and Butte County listed 47.
Elsewhere, Fall River County reported 17 new cases, Custer County had 15 and there were 11 new cases in Oglala Lakota County.
Health officials say 55 of South Dakota’s 66 counties are listed as having “high” community spread. “High” community spread is 100 cases or greater per 100,000 or a 10% or greater PCR test positivity rate.
As of Wednesday, 62.61% of the population 12-year-olds and above has received at least one dose while 56.92% have completed the vaccination series.
