CALICO, S.D. — People in a small town on the Pine Ridge Reservation were able to return to their homes Sunday after being evacuated by a weekend wildfire.
The fire, estimated between 450 and 500 acres, is burning north of the town of Calico. Authorities issued an evacuation order earlier Saturday for Calico residents, but that order was lifted overnight. There’s been no reports of any structures lost.
More firefighters and equipment were expected on the scene Sunday to relieve crews that have been battling the fire.
At one point Saturday, the fire reportedly was 3 miles wide.

PINE RIDGE, S.D. – A dangerous wildfire is burning on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
Authorities there say the fire is burning east of Calico Community and at last report, was approximately 3 miles wide.
The office of Reservation President Kevin Killer says Calico has now been evacuated, and people to the south of the fire are being told to prepare for evacuation.
Five fire services are on the scene, and air support is being used.
