STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council on Wednesday night passed a resolution that addresses certain measures deemed necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Sturgis City Manager Daniel Ainslie says the resolution continues to encourage businesses to follow Centers for Disease Control guidelines in fighting the virus, but does add some teeth in making sure that is being done.
Ainslie says the resolution states that if a business is found not to be abiding by the guidelines, then it is determined to be a public nuisance and a ticket or fine could be implemented.
He says most businesses in Sturgis are doing a good job already, but there are a few that aren’t. Ainslie says some of those businesses are casinos and the resolution will ask they continually disinfect their machines and make sure no more than 10 people are in the establishment at one time and practicing social distancing.
If they fail to adhere to the guidelines, they could be ticketed or fined.
Ainslie says some casinos in town have closed, but some have not, and they are attracting more and more people. He says the C.D.C. guidelines aren’t being followed at some of those that are still open.
Ainslie says they are trying to make sure everybody is abiding by the C.D.C. guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
